Vasily Konovalenko was a Ukrainian-born (self-identified as Russian) sculptor who was the creator of unique miniatures in the genre of gem- and mineral-cutting. Konovalenko immigrated to the United States in 1981. Much of his work produced in the U.S. is on display at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science in Denver, Colorado. The artist, Vasily Konovalenko, carved several figures depicting typical activities of Russians. The colors come from the raw materials – there’s no paint, just carving. One sculpture included a few metal crafts that were pieces of art in their own right.
